DR. GROSSMAN My name is Nisso Grossman. N-i-s-s-o G-r-o-s-s-m-a-n.
<JUDGE> I KNOW THIS IS DIFFICULT FOR YOU. BUT THESE PROCEEDINGS WILL GO SMOOTHLY ONLY WITH YOUR COOPERATION.
DR. GROSSMAN Pardon me? Of course I do not intend to make unpleasant for you to interrogate me. But I don’t recognize this court. Besides, even if you did have jurisdiction over me, I have nothing to lose.
<JUDGE> DO YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THIS COURT?
DR. GROSSMAN I respect you, your honor — is that what you want me to say?
<JUDGE> YOU WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN CREATING THE SOCIAL DISASTER WHICH FUELS THAT HYSTERIA.
DR. GROSSMAN What did you say? How can you blame me for the homelessness and suffering in the world? The world did it to itself, over and over again in, alleys, cars, bushes, anywhere — that is why there are so many people suffering. You asked me for a statement,
Ladies, and a few gentlemen I see. Gentlemen, I hope you all are doing well. There are so few of us left. And the few men who are left — Well, most of us are in the same boat. Even I, the man who is blamed for all the world’s troubles, Nisso Grossman — the youngest man ever to win a Nobel Prize, and the only man ever to have the Prize revoked. Where were all of you in the 90’s?
<JUDGE> WHAT IS THE MEANING OF ADDRESSING THE COURT IN THAT FASHION?
DR. GROSSMAN Madam? It was only a rhetorical question. I asked it, madam, because I want to be sure that all of us to be properly placed in the time that is relevant to this inquest.
<JUDGE> THE NINETIES ARE NOT RELEVANT TO THE CRIMES OF WHICH YOU ARE ACCUSED.
DR. GROSSMAN Excuse me, madam. You are mistaken. Nothing is more relevant to this case than what happened in the 90’s.
<JUDGE> GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE, SIR.
DR. GROSSMAN Do you have amnesia? Did you sleep through the First, and the Second, and the Third Environmental wars? You may call them the Persian Gulf Wars and the Brazilian Revolution, but we all have seen and suffered too much by now not to know what those wars were about.
The oceans and every mile of coastline on earth were regularly littered with the bodies of sea-dwelling animals who were unable to survive in the elevated temperatures of the oceans. Salmon was extinct by 2004, and cod, halibut, tuna all became protected as endangered species.
<JUDGE> FISH HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MATTER AT HAND.
DR. GROSSMAN Madam, fish have everything to do with the issues! This is my statement. Please, do not tell me what I may or may not say.
<JUDGE> I WANT TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT PEOPLE, DR. GROSSMAN.
DR. GROSSMAN I am telling you about people. People are the problem! They have always been the problem.
Remember Africa? In the late 90’s Africa was devasted by war, drought and famine in the North; by AIDS and wars between nationalists and terrorists backed by the world economic powers —
<JUDGE> PLEASE STATE FOR THE RECORD: WHO WERE THE WORLD ECONOMIC POWERS.
DR. GROSSMAN The world economic powers, WE, the U.S. , the European Union, Japan. The same people who backed my research! You already know that.
There were wars over control of the rain forests in central Africa. And after the death of Nelson Mandela, there were tribal and race wars in the South. As we all know, the United Nations which operated so brilliantly in the former Yugoslavia, tried to clear its reputation by dividing Africa into trusteeships — each of which had a representative of the World Economic powers on its board of trustees. The only good that came of the trustee s of which comprehensive environmental protection was an integral part.
I was working in California by that time. Of course, I supported the environmental economics projects. Only a fool wouldn’t support them. I remember that certain members of Ge tried to sabotage the projects.
<JUDGE> WHY WAS THE ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS PROGRAM ONLY APPLIED IN BLACK COUNTRIES?
DR. GROSSMAN What difference does it make that the economic experimentation was in black countries? Oh, I suppose this court would say it was typical of Eurocentric men who exploit everyone else, and use them like lab rats instead of trying to save the world which — I would like to point out — none of the black, brown or yellow people were doing — except for the Japanese. fi
<JUDGE> WAS YOUR WORK IN ANY WAY ACTIVELY SUPPORTED BY JAPANESE INTERESTS?
DR. GROSSMAN Some of the money that supported my research came from Japanese sources. What difference does it make, exactly what those sources were — they’re probably all dead now, anyway! May I continue with my statement? I really want to get out of here as soon as possible.
<JUDGE> YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEFORE THE COURT COMPLETES ITS CASE AGAINST YOU?
DR. GROSSMAN What? No! I have no desire to hear all the evidence against me. Because the black, brown and yellow people — except for the Japanese — were not trying to save the world, the world economic powers under the auspices of the United Nations initiated the World Environmental Revolution, systematically invadinscar, Southeast Asia, and parts of South America, Africa, Mexico, India and even Europe.
<JUDGE> YOU SAY IT AS IF IT WAS NOT AGGRESSION AGAINST THOSE COUNTRIES — AS IF IT WERE NOT RAPE AND ROBBERY.
DR. GROSSMAN No, it was not rape and robbery. It was not even enough to control the rain forests. Why did the Revolution not establish limits on the use of fossil fuel? Place restrictions on the use of land for grazing animals? And above all, there was the catastrophe of a world population out of control. I suppose we have solved the population problem. You would like to credit me for that, wouldn’t you, madam? But I still believe in every hour I spent researching the problem of overpopulation.
<JUDGE> DID YOU BRING THE ARTICLES I REQUESTED — THOSE CONTAINING YOUR QUOTES TO THE PRESS ABOUT OVERPOPULATION?
DR. GROSSMAN Yes, I told the San Francisco Examiner “All AIDS patients should be counseled about euthanasia upon diagnosis? I also said “The United Nations should declare martial law on the issue of birth control; and I said: “All women should be sterilized either after their first pregnancy or upon reaching the age of 27.”
<JUDGE> DID YOU EVER CONSIDER THE ALTERNATIVE OF VOLUNTARY VASECTOMY?
DR. GROSSMAN What? Voluntary vasectomy? Madam. Pregnancy is the responsibility of women and the State.
<JUDGE> ARE YOU NOW GOING TO DISCUSS THE VIRUS?
DR. GROSSMAN No, I am not now coming to the subject of the virus. I am now coming the subject of Ge.
I founded Ge in 2005.
<JUDGE> YOU FOUNDED GE WITH ROXANNE CHANCE?
DR. GROSSMAN Yes, Roxanne Chance was involved in the founding of Ge — but only as my assistant. She did nothing without my authorization — until later. But that’s another story which is relevant only insofar as Roxanne, without consulting me, used the worldwide women’s movement as a skeleton on which to hang Ge. And thus here I am now. It is regrettable that there are so few men left in the world. It is so like women to look for someone to blame instead of trying to solve the world’s problems. This is the final solution?
<JUDGE> DO YOU NOT THINK THAT IS A HIDEOUS PUN, DR?
DR. GROSSMAN What? You are right: it is a hideous pun
The initial purpose of Ge was to conduct political experiments modelled on the demonstration which made Roxanne Chance famous — in other words, the demonstration of environmental disaster, the ded which she performed while she was a guest on Meet the Press, by throwing a substance resembling asbestos on the other guest, her former employer, the Mayor of Omaha. I was so impressed by her demonstration that I offered her a job. Ge was financed with money I received in the form of donations from people all over the world after I won the Nobel Prize for Medicine. For the record, I was awarded the Prize for my development of the A-20 vaccine for some strains of AIDS.
DR. GROSSMAN The cure for AIDS is coming too late for a lot of people. Everyone in the world rejoiced at the vaccine for AIDS. They were grateful to me. That’s why they sent me money. Yes, I will continue.
Within two years of my hiring Roxanne Chance, every major town in every American state, most provinces of Canada, the national capitols within the EEC and major universities in Japan and Korea had a Ge affiliate which had staged a demonstration of environmental disaster — a ded.
<JUDGE> WHAT WAS INVOLVED IN THESE DEDS — WHAT SUBSTANCES?
DR. GROSSMAN Asbestos at Grand Central Station in New York. Nerve gas in Mexico City. Raw sewage in the water supply of Muni
<JUDGE> YOU DID USE HARMLESS SUBSTANCES AT THE TIME.
DR. GROSSMAN Of course, we used harmless substances! —. Pardon me, Madam. You have been a major figure in Ge for many years. You have never staged a ded?
<JUDGE> HOW WERE YOU SUPPORTING YOURSELF — AND YOUR PROJECTS — DURING THIS PERIOD OF NON-TOXIC DEDS?
DR. GROSSMAN You mean, did I have a job during this period? Noone ever has asked me whether I had a job before. I had a five year grant to support development of a meatlike substance which could be cultivated and would eventually replace the meat provided by grazing animals.
<JUDGE> THIS GRANT CAMOUFLAGED YOUR OTHER ACTIVITIES?
DR. GROSSMAN Pardon me? No! It was not a cover for my other research. I have never needed a cover.
On New Year’s Day of the year 2009, the world woke up to the eery news that the entire state of New Jersey in the United States had been evacuated a
nd closed because the area had been exposed to so much toxic waste for so many years, that the land itself was uninhabitable. In fact, all the dairy animals, food animals and crops were destroyed. The water was so undrinkable that engineers were brought in from all over the world to find a way to close the water sources in New Jersey. Three days later, a terrorist group poisoned the water supply of Sarajevo. It was unbelievable. It was hideous. I sat in my bedroom with five television sets twentyfour hours a day for over two weeks. It had come to the point that real disasters were so horrible, the public would not respond to deds anymore. I announced to the leadership of Ge: “We are going to use real poison in deds, if we have to start hijacking toxic wast Ge. There were no human casualities in any of the toxic deds I performed.
<JUDGE> WHAT ACTS DID YOU AND YOUR FOLLOWERS PERFORM IN THESE TOXIC DEDS?
DR. GROSSMAN My followers and I stripped the flesh off a cow with acid in Bombay. In Austin, Texas, we drowned a dog in the same poison that was used by the Sarajevo terrorists.
<JUDGE> HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY REGRETS ABOUT PERFORMING TOXIC DEDS — ABOUT THE EFFECT THAT TOXIC DEDS REALLY HAD ON THE WORLD.
DR. GROSSMAN No! I have no regrets. We had a message. It was heard. I am not responsible for any of the human deaths whi
<JUDGE> YOU DON’T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HUMAN DEATHS?
DR. GROSSMAN No, madam. I am not responsible for any of those deaths. Even though I invented the toxic ded . Even though I funded a terrorist movement with money that had been designated for food research. Even though some of my comrades.
<JUDGE> DID YOU ABANDON TERRORISM OUT OF A FEAR OF BEING IMPRISONED?
DR. GROSSMAN No, I did not leave terrorism because I was afraid of going to prison. I left terrorism because my talents are too valuable. I was asked to perform a task which was so vital.
<JUDGE> WE ARE FINALLY GOING TO DISCUSS THE VIRUS.
I went to India. The World Economic powers wanted me to develop a virus which would cause premature menopause in women, thereby rendering them sterile. Madam, everyone knows this story already — why are these people so excited all of a sudden? They should go out and do something about what’s happening now instead of being appalled by the past which none of us can do anything about.
India was chosen for the experiment for several reasons: it had proportionally the worst overpopulation and the least area of rain forest; it also was close to China. The virus was to be transmitted through the A-20 vaccine.
<JUDGE> WHAT WAS THE INTENDED PURPOSE OF THE VIRUS?
DR. GROSSMAN Specifically, the World Economic pow
DR. GROSSMAN Yes, I said benign. The virus was to be secretly tested in India, and in a few other areas which were under the trusteeship of the United Nations.
The virus did not work.
<JUDGE> YOU DID NOT SUCCEED IN FINDING A BENIGN SOLUTION TO OVERPOPULATION, DR?
DR. GROSSMAN Yes, I said it did not work!Instead of causing menopause, the virus caused uterine cancer in 30% of the women who received it. The average survival rate beyond the date of diagnosis was only six months in 50% of cases. The mortality rate in female victims of the virus was not the most catastrophic result of the disease. The virus was highly contagious, sexually transmittable, and caused in men a testicular cancer which was deadlier than any disease in history. The average survival ra≈te beyond the diagnosis of the testicular cancer was only six weeks in most cases — unless the victim was castrated. Castration increased life expectancy to 1-1/2 to 5 years. Neither I nor any of my associates realized how deadly the virus was until it was too late. Thus, the cancer which the World Health Organization has named “Grossman’s Disease” after me, spread throughout the Third World.
<JUDGE>ARE YOU ABLE TO CONTINUE, DR?
DR. GROSSMAN Madam. I am very tired.
While “Grossman’s Disease” spread throughout the Third World, the AIDS epidemic continued in the countries of the World Economic Powers. People were desperate to receive the A-20 vaccine because of the mythology surrounding AIDS. Obviousealth Organization that instead of preventing AIDS, the A-20 vaccine — the miracle that I created — was the cause of the deadliest strain of AIDS: “ Grossman’s Disease.”
<JUDGE> WOULD YOU LIKE TO REST, DR?
DR. GROSSMAN May I tell the court what is even more unjust than this hearing? The fact that I was blamed for causing a disease I had sought to cure.
<JUDGE> DR., THE CREATION OF GROSSMAN’S DISEASE WAS A CRIME.
DR. GROSSMAN “Grossman’s Disease” is not my crime! I was given a job to do. I did it. Obviously, it was not my best work.
Madam, may I ask the court a question?
DR. GROSSMAN Thank you. What is the maximum sentence I might receive?
<JUDGE> LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
DR. GROSSMAN I have already been living in solitary confinement. Therefore, Madam, I am ready to confess to my crime.
DR. GROSSMAN My crime. Madam. I want to confess. My crime was not creating “Grossman’s Disease.” My crime was smuggling the A-20 vaccine containing Grossman’s virus to China, where it not only went on the Black Market to the people of the World Economic powers. I have never said this out loud: the virus killed two-thirds of mainland China’s population.
<JUDGE> WHY DID YOU TAKE THE VIRUS TO CHINA?
DR. GROSSMAN I took the virus to China because I created it.
DR. GROSSMAN That is the only reason. I had been dealing with the World Economic powers since the beginning of my career. I never thought they would ruin me. Besides, Madam, I knew I never would live long enough to vindicate myself. I am a victim of “Grossman’s Disease.” I was castrated almost five years ago. I have not long to live. My situation is called “poetic justice,” is it not?
